Taking care of your Opal is unlike other harder gemstones. Opal has a glass-like fragility that can shatter if hit against hard surfaces or if dropped on floors that have no padding.

  • Do not use harsh chemicals to clean your Opals. Just a gentle wash with pure soap and water will do just fine.
  • Do not use polishing cloths that have any impregnated compounds or any kind of abrasive surfaces,as this may cause tiny scratches to your highly polished Opal. We prefer to clean all our Opals with a flat surface cloth, such as a piece of pure cotton or even a cleaning cloth used to clean sunglasses or spectacles.
  • Do not submerge your Opal into an Ultrasonic jewellery cleaner, jewellery cleaner liquid solution, or any compound used to clean precious metals like as silver or gold. If your Opal is not a Solid Australian Opal (such as Ethiopian Opals, Doublets, Triplets or Inlays) then even water may harm your Opal; so,it is recommended you clean these types of Opals with a clean damp cloth. Submerging your Ethiopian Opal in water whist swimming, or even showering, may make your Opal to go clear or opaque and may take several days (or even weeks) to dry out, before the natural colours to come back.
  • Doublets, Triplets and Inlays have been created using glues and adhesives to adhere the Opal to a host rock backing and as such, with constant exposure to water or any kind of chemical (no matter how mild), may eventually cause the glue to break the bond between the host rock and the Opal
